Name: Ryan Shelley
Company: Northwest Bank
Position: SBA Relationship Manager
What does your company do? Northwest Bank is a small regional commercial bank specializing in commercial finance including investment real estate, owner-occupied real estate, business working capital lines of credit, and SBA financing. Our bankers are relationship driven and take pride in helping clients grow their companies.
What do you do for your company? I facilitate the SBA financing for our Salt Lake and Boise divisions which includes Owner occupied real estate, business acquisition and equipment financing through either the 7a or 504 programs. I am tasked with becoming the professional in all things “SBA” and government lending programs to help our market mitigate some of the current economic challenges we are going through currently.
What are you working on right now? I have been extremely focused on the PPP (Paycheck Protection Program) for the last couple months, along with facilitating a number of business acquisition and partner buyout loans through the SBA.
Best career advice you’ve received? A number of years ago I was challenged to step out of my comfort zone and learn how to tap into my strength of relationship management, and learn how to provide solutions to my clients without acting like a salesman. I was looking at job opportunities that were the exact opposite of what my mentor believed I should be doing. That advice propelled me into my current career of lending and relationship development that has made me extremely happy and fulfilled.
Best career advice you’ve given? Never give up, push and push until you achieve the results you need and want. Nothing worth achieving is easy.
What is one thing people don’t know about you? I actually love to cook, and find that it helps calm me down after a stressful day at work!
